A daughter of thunder.
That’s what I want to be.
One of my favorite moments in the Bible is when James and John’s mother seeks Jesus, “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
I’m aware of the varied (and much more academically inclined) exegeses preformed on this verse, but what stands out to me, first and foremost, is a mother who saw and believed who Jesus was. She wasn’t rebuked for the forward nature of her request–Jesus takes no issue with it at all. In fact, the other disciples who decided to grumble about heaven’s pecking order were the bunch that got the metaphor thrown at them.
Jesus called James and John the sons of thunder. I like to think I’m their long lost sister.
Welcome to my reflections as I figure out what it looks like to see and believe.
